I have been having a great time sharing our learning with my colleagues. One who teaches ESL was very pleased with ClozePro, and we have had some very welcome success with non-readers using books form the wiki site. It is gratifying to watch people wake up to the power they have over their own learning!
After using Kurzweil with a student who only needs to make voice notes, one of the staff suggested I use something called "VoiceNote" (or Soundnote?) which is a speech to text software. When I expressed my doubts (with Dragon in mind) they assured me it is very easy to use. So, I went looking for it from disability services who agreed it would be great ... but of course we don't have it. Thank goodness for Kurzweil! Its like a superhero - it can fill almost any need.
Anyone else heard of Voice Note?

Eileen,
I haven't heard of Voice Note, but I can sympathize with the problem of finding great programs but not having access. At the elementary level we do not have Kurzweil available on any of our computers. I took it upon myself to download our 30 day trial CD on the Resource room computers and was told by my school board's AT tech that it would have to be uninstalled and further, we are not allowed to install any software ourselves. Everything has to go through the AT dept. with an approved referral and even then, unless we purchase the program, our only option is borrowing the program for a period of 2 months. It's frustrating to know that the technology is available, but unaccessible.
Eileen,
I have not heard of Voice Note but thanks for mentioning it. I will look it up. I agree with Eileen's response to your entry..it is very frustrating that everything has to go through the tech. We face similar struggles in using Writing with Symbols. One disc...one computer. It is limiting.

I love the look of your blog! This tyranny by the Techs must stop! My EA inservice will not be so effective because I can't get Clicker installed in time. Not that my Tech guy isn't great- he is, but he is so overloaded!

Eileen,
I so agree with you in so many ways. The school that my daughter will eventually attend is only having Kurzweil installed this coming week - and it not because there has not been a need for it prior to this. It makes it very hard to help some students when you know that there are things out there to help but you can't get your hands on it.... OR you can get your hands on it and aren't allowed to install it.
I love what you said "watch people wake up to the power they have over their own learning!" This is a quote worth sharing lots!!!!! Pam
