After spending seven hours playing with Kurweil (and cursing the slow and archaic computer I was working on) I decided to investigate further into the product. A 2-second search on Ted.Com found multiple links to R. Kurzweil discussing the future of humankind and computers, as well as a full biography. Intrigued I searched my old frend Google, and then YouTube and found biograpies, full-text books available free to download and hundreds of videos and articles discussing this man, his work, and his life.
I have far more respect for the product (well, even more) now that I know about the creator. I have attatched one video link to the blog, and encourage you to investigate on your own!
Reflecting on the hard work of yesterday, I have a greater understanding of the challenges faced by resource teachers and other disbursers of assistive technology. It is HARD to create meaningfull and useful documents, and it is work to ensure that the people who have to use them understand what they are doing. As I put together packages that I hope will enhance my student's learning, I also hope that the people I am giving these packages to will use them to the full extent they are intended.
I am learning and learning and learning: this is certainly a journey that will not end!

Describing the learning process as a journey that will go on forever is spot on I think. Technology is constantly changing, so if I ever feel like 'ok now i get it.' then i think i should get ready for the next thing coming.
Thanks for the history reminder. I find it is easy to become frustrated and exhausted with technology; however, one must remember that the technology available to our students is far beyond what was available years ago or even a year ago. Things are always changing and hopefully getting better; thus, helping to meet student needs. I have to remind myself that no single piece of technology is perfect for every student nor will it meet their every need.
