Class #2 - Brains and other interesting stuff

How wonderful was the video on brain development! While I always knew the brain was plastic and evolving in childhood, it was interesting to have it presented so well. My friend's neice had her left hemisphere removed becuase of damage from multiple seizures: she is working at grade level and interacting where as before she might as well have been on another planet. The migration of speech to the left was also fascinating. That every infant can perceive the different sounds of every culture, but loses the ability by 11 months is an interesting exploration of nature vs nurture that I will be bringing to my Sociology class tomorrow!

The introduction of various AT programs was fun: I wish we could take the computers and programs home for a few weeks. I will have to be satisfied playing with Kurzweil. Two of my students use Webmapping, so I am going to see of the Kurzweil program at school is version 11.

This course is fun: it is great to be able to apply our knowledge and explore it in class, instead of spending a beautiful fall day listening to theory (yawn).
